INT ALDERAAN - ROYAL PALACE - QUEEN'S CHAMBERS - DAY
Amidala and Shmi look at wedding gowns. Amidala's handmaids bring them to her. The handmaidens are dressed rather informally, seeing as there is no queen now. The handmaids move in and out of the room.
Amidala steps out from behind a changing screen. She wears an exquisite silk gown.
SHMI SKYWALKER
That one is beautiful.
AMIDALA
I don't know. Does it make me look fat?
SHMI SKYWALKER
You look beautiful in it.
AMIDALA
I don't know. For the first time in my life, I don't have any answers.
Shmi smiles understandingly. She touches Amidala's arm. Amidala sits down on the corner of the bed next to Shmi.
SHMI SKYWALKER
No one has all the answers. We all just do the best we can with what we do know. And I know that I am about to gain a beautiful daughter.
Amidala smiles at the compliment.
AMIDALA
Do you think Anakin will like it?
Amidala stands and turns around in the dress, modelling it.
SHMI SKYWALKER
He will have too many other things to think about. Don't be sad, but he won't even notice the dress.
Amidala takes another dress from the rack.
AMIDALA
He hasn't noticed a lot of things.
SHMI SKYWALKER
Come here.
Amidala sits next to Shmi. Shmi consoles her.
SHMI SKYWALKER
My son is a man now. I haven't seen him for almost ten years. He has changed. But I still love him.
AMIDALA
He's mad all the time, like I did something wrong. But he never says anything.
SHMI SKYWALKER
You can soften him. I've seen him when he looks at you, and that is the boy I remember. He's not a Jedi Knight, he's Annie, my baby.
AMIDALA
But what do I do?
SHMI SKYWALKER
Let him know that you love him. Make your home a place that he can feel safe. That's what he needs right now.
AMIDALA
So much is happening.
SHMI SKYWALKER
Let it happen. The future belongs to you. I have lived my life; I know my place. But you have your whole future ahead of you. And you can share it with Annie.
AMIDALA
I hope so.
CUT TO:
INT JEDI WARSHIP - OBSERVATION DECK - NIGHT
Anakin stands looking out the window. Obi Wan enters behind him.
OBI WAN KENOBI
Anakin, I've been looking everywhere for you.
ANAKIN
He's out there.
OBI WAN KENOBI
The Mandalorians are out there.
ANAKIN
So are the Sith.
OBI WAN KENOBI
Stay away from them, Anakin. They will only hurt you.
ANAKIN
No. They can't. Only my friends can hurt me.
OBI WAN KENOBI
What is that supposed to mean?
ANAKIN
Don't read any deep meanings into my words, Obi Wan. They're just words.
OBI WAN KENOBI
Words are how we interpret life, Anakin.
ANAKIN
Three days a Jedi Master, and already philosophizing.
OBI WAN KENOBI
We have a war to fight.
ANAKIN
You have a war to fight. I have a battle to win.
OBI WAN KENOBI
Is there something I need to know about?
ANAKIN
They're out there. Waiting for me. I have felt them.
OBI WAN KENOBI
The Sith?
ANAKIN
So you feel them, too.
OBI WAN KENOBI
I have been focusing on this war. I don't have the time or energy to think of anything else.
ANAKIN
He thinks if he can defeat me, he'll be the chosen one.
OBI WAN KENOBI
But you're the chosen one.
ANAKIN
Am I? Am I really?
OBI WAN KENOBI
Qui Gon thought so.
ANAKIN
And he's dead.
OBI WAN KENOBI
Anakin, the prophesy is true. You will bring balance to the force.
ANAKIN
I don't care about that. All I know is I'm a Jedi Knight, and I have a battle to win, so that I can go back to Amidala and live out my life in peace.
OBI WAN KENOBI
That's a good dream to have. There have been times that I wished I had a family.
ANAKIN
Why don't you?
OBI WAN KENOBI
I gave my life over to the force a long time ago. I decided that if the force willed me to do something, I would do it.
ANAKIN
Is that why Qui Gon didn't disappear when he was cut down?
OBI WAN KENOBI
He has work yet to do.
Anakin ponders on this.
OBI WAN KENOBI
And so do we. We are coming up on Concord Dawn. Mace Windu is going to lead the first wave. He has asked that you be part of it.
ANAKIN
No.
OBI WAN KENOBI
It is a great honor he is extending.
ANAKIN
I'll go down later.
OBI WAN KENOBI
You must do what you feel is right, of course.
ANAKIN
I'll talk with you later.
Anakin turns back to face the window, effectively ending the conversation.
Obi Wan nods in acceptance, then turns to exit.
CUT TO:
EXT CONCORD DAWN - CLONING FACILITY - DAY
Jedi drop ships land in the forests surrounding the facility. Legions of Mandalorian Supercommandos swarm into the forests.
EXT CONCORD DAWN - CONTINUING
The Senate Fleet engages the Mandalorian Fleet. Capital ships disgorge swarms of fighters. Turbolaser batteries spit destruction with every shot.
The two fleets are evenly matched. First a Mandalorian capital ship explodes, then a Republic one.
Fighters explode in every direction.
INT JEDI WARSHIP - OBSERVATION DECK - CONTINUING
Anakin watches coldly as this destruction ensues.
The harsh whispers return.
WHISPER
Anakin... I'm waiting.
Anakin turns and calmly walks down to the hangar bay.
INT JEDI WARSHIP - HANGAR - CONTINUING
Anakin looks at the rows of one-man fighters. He chooses a TIE prototype, with curved wings.
The TIE fighter takes off out of the hangar.
EXT CONCORD DAWN - CONTINUING
The TIE fighter streaks down toward the planet. Four Mandalorian fighters streak after it.
Anakin whips the TIE fighter around, and destroys one of the Mandalorians.
Anakin changes direction, and heads toward one of Concord Dawn's moons.
EXT CONCORD DAWN MOON - CONTINUING
The SLAVE I and Aurra Sing's ship rest side by side. Anakin flies over them. The Slave I turbolasers target his ship.
AURRA SING (O.S.)
No. We only watch.
The three Mandalorians fly over, in pursuit of Anakin.
Aurra Sing shoots one of them down.
BOBA FETT (O.S.)
You said we only watch.
AURRA SING (O.S.)
Sorry. My mistake.
EXT CONCORD DAWN MOON - CONTINUING
Anakin dives into a canyon. The Mandalorians follow. He weaves in and out among boulders and outcroppings. One Mandalorian misjudges, and crashes into the wall.
ANAKIN
One more to go.
Anakin races back toward Concord Dawn. The ship follows. Anakin swerves right next to a Mandalorian Capital Ship. Its turbolaser batteries target Anakin. At the last possible instant, Anakin swerves away, and the Mandalorian fighter explodes in a brilliant flash of light.
CUT TO:
INT CONCORD DAWN - CLONING FACILITY - DAY
The battle between Jedi and Supercommandos rages on fiercely outside. Inside the Cloning Facility is strangely calm. Vast rows of tubes incubate the developing clones.
Anakin enters cautiously. He looks around for any sign of his antagonists. Behind him, on the catwalks, dark shadows slip in and out of view.
Anakin ignites his lightsaber. He advances slowly. At the end of a platform, he looks down. The facility burrows deep into the very bowels of the planet. Thousands upon millions of cloning tubes line the walls of the facility. Every one of them looks to be in operation.
DARTH REZIN (O.S.)
I've been waiting for you, Jedi.
Anakin whirls. Darth Rezin blocks the only path out.
ANAKIN
I know.
Darth Rezin ignites his red lightsaber.
ANAKIN
What about them? Do I get to fight them, too?
Several Dark Jedi emerge from the shadows. They ignite their lightsabers and lightdaggers.
DARTH REZIN
We're here to kill you.
CUT TO:
INT JEDI WARSHIP - OBSERVATION DECK - DAY
Obi Wan Kenobi watches the battle with some concern.
EXT CONCORD DAWN - FOREST - DAY
The battle rages fiercely. Mace Windu and Adi Gallia again fight back to back. They cut down the Mandalorians with supreme efficiency.
All around them, Jedi and Mandalorians fall.
MACE WINDU
We have to destroy the facility.
ADI GALLIA
We can't reach it. There's too many of them.
MACE WINDU
We must. Follow me.
Mace Windu sends out a telepathic message to all the Jedi.
MACE WINDU (V.O.)
To the cloning facility with utmost speed. We must destroy the clones.
Mace Windu and Adi Gallia cut down six more Mandalorians, then run toward the distant facility.
CUT TO:
INT MANDALORIAN WARSHIP - CONTINUING
Mandalore watches the battle from his command deck.
Boba Fett and Aurra Sing stand behind him.
BOBA FETT
They will destroy the facility.
MANDALORE
Yes. That is the plan.
BOBA FETT
We will lose what power we have gained.
MANDALORE
I have made arrangements otherwise.
BOBA FETT
What arrangements?
AURRA SING
I think he's done some scheming on the side, Fett.
BOBA FETT
You stay out of this.
AURRA SING
He's got his own deal with Sidious.
MANDALORE
Your insight serves you well, Aurra Sing. Bury your feelings, for they could lead to your destruction.
One of Mandalore's GUARDS presses a blaster to the back of Aurra Sing's neck.
AURRA SING
One lucky guess and you think I'm some sort of Jedi. Lucky me.
MANDALORE
Go down and destroy the Jedi.
CUT TO:
INT CONCORD DAWN - CLONING FACILITY - DAY
Anakin squares off against Darth Rezin and his four Dark Jedi. Liem Kairnal steps first against Anakin.
LIEM KAIRNAL
I've not shed Jedi blood for a long time.
ANAKIN
Does that disappoint you?
Anakin immediately goes on the offensive, slashing down at Kairnal. Kairnal whips his lightdagger up, narrowly missing Anakin's face. Anakin leaps over Kairnal. Rather than slash back at Kairnal, he slashes out at another dark Jedi. That Jedi falls.
DARTH REZIN
Very good. You might almost be as good as me.
ANAKIN
I don't need tattoos to prove I'm tough. I'm better.
Anakin blocks an overhead swing by Kairnal. He kicks back, knocking Kairnal off balance. Anakin thrusts out with the force, pushing Kairnal off the edge of the platform.
The remaining dark jedi advance toward Anakin. He glances up and sees a catwalk running high above him. He leaps up, using the force to propel him.
One of the dark jedi throws his lightsaber at the catwalk, cutting it down. Anakin falls, but grabs the railing.
Darth Rezin watches and smiles. Anakin will die.
CUT TO:
INT JEDI WARSHIP - OBSERVATION DECK - CONTINUING
Obi Wan paces, holding his hands behind his back.
A young CAPTAIN CRIX MADINE enters and brings Obi Wan a readout.
CRIX MADINE
Sir. We just received word from the surface. We've lost a lot of men, General. I don't know that we can take out the facility.
OBI WAN KENOBI
What about our fleet?
CRIX MADINE
We are fighting a losing battle.
OBI WAN KENOBI
We need more men.
CRIX MADINE
Unless the force can conjure up another fleet, I fear we may lose this battle.
CUT TO:
EXT CONCORD DAWN - CLONING FACILITY - CONTINUING
Mace Windu leads his army of Jedi Knights to the facility.
Above them, the Slave I and Aurra Sing's ship race by, dropping bombs on the Jedi.
MACE WINDU
Inside, everybody. Now.
INT CONCORD DAWN - CLONING FACILITY - CONTINUING
Anakin pulls himself to safety. Darth Rezin paces beneath him.
DARTH REZIN
You cannot escape me. I am your doom, Skywalker. I am the one that will balance the Sith.
ANAKIN
You're a fool.
DARTH REZIN
You are the fool, to think that you can defeat my dark Jedi.
ANAKIN
Two of them are dead.
DARTH REZIN
There are many more.
ANAKIN
What about you? Or do you let the weak ones do your work for you?
The doors burst open, and Jedi stream through.
MACE WINDU (O.S.)
Destroy the clones!
Darth Rezin looks back at the wave of Jedi Knights, then quickly back to Anakin.
DARTH REZIN
This is not over! I will follow you to the ends of the galaxy if I have to.
Darth Rezin leaps off the platform into the darkness below. His dark Jedi follow him.
CUT TO:
INT MANDALORIAN WARSHIP - CONTINUING
Mandalore looks at the report of the fighting on the surface.
MANDALORE
How foolish these Jedi are. Destroy the complex.
EXT MANDALORIAN WARSHIP - CONTINUING
A squadron of fighters streaks down toward the planet.
CUT TO:
INT JEDI WARSHIP - OBSERVATION DECK - CONTINUING
Obi Wan looks at a holographic display of all the forces surrounding the planet. He points to one Capital ship off to the side.
OBI WAN KENOBI
What is this one?
CRIX MADINE
It hasn't entered the battle.
OBI WAN KENOBI
It just deployed fighters. Where are they going?
CRIX MADINE
It looks like they're heading down to the cloning facility.
OBI WAN KENOBI
That's where the our troops are. Get them out of there.
CUT TO:
EXT CONCORD DAWN - CONTINUING
The Mandalorians press their advantage, destroying more Jedi and Senate ships.
Suddenly, another fleet drops out of hyperspace. The lead capital ship launches a barrage of fire that obliterates the nearest Mandalorian ship.
INT JEDI WARSHIP - OBSERVATION DECK - CONTINUING
Obi Wan and Crix Madine look at each other in surprise. Over the comlink comes a familiar voice.
BAIL ANTILLES (O.S.)
I apologize, General. We had some trouble with Palpatine's guardships.
OBI WAN KENOBI
Welcome, Bail Organa. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. We have a problem...
CUT TO:
INT CONCORD DAWN - CLONING FACILITY - CONTINUING
The Jedi look around at the sheer size of the facility.
MACE WINDU
There must be over a million cloning tanks in here.
ANAKIN (O.S.)
Hey, up here.
ADI GALLIA
Young Skywalker. What are you doing up there?
ANAKIN
Does anyone else feel that?
Mace Windu concentrates for a moment, then looks up in panic.
MACE WINDU
Everybody out!
The Jedi race for the single exit. The facility explodes behind them. The cloning tanks pop as the heat boils them.
Anakin searches for a way out. He looks up at a skylight. He clambers over machinery and cloning tanks to get to the skylight. It is locked. Anakin whips out his lightsaber and cuts a hole in the roof. He leaps out.
MACE WINDU (O.S.)
Out! Hurry!
EXT CONCORD DAWN - CLONING FACILITY - ROOF - CONTINUING
Anakin races along the roof. The back of the facility collapses in flaming ruin. Anakin races toward the front. The building falls beneath him. He leaps for the edge.
Anakin falls several stories to the ground. He hits the ground hard. The building crumbles and explodes behind him. Over half of the Jedi were trapped inside.
Mace Windu carries Adi Gallia over his shoulder. He gently lays her on the ground. She lies still. Her breathing is very shallow.
MACE WINDU
Don't leave us, Adi.
Mace Windu puts his hand on her forehead.
Anakin picks himself up slowly from the ground. He walks towards Mace Windu.
Mace looks up at Anakin. His eyes grow wide. He starts to warn Anakin. Anakin whirls, and raises his hand in just enough time to block a killing laser blast.
MACE WINDU
No!
Boba Fett stands with smoking blaster. Anakin falls to the ground. Mace Windu ignites his lightsaber and leaps at Boba Fett. Boba Fett fires more blasts. Each one is deflected by Mace Windu's lightsaber.
Boba Fett engages his rocketpack and blasts away from there. Mandalorian Supercommandos regroup and converge upon the Jedi.
The few remaining Jedi back into a circle, surrounding their fallen comrades. Anakin slowly rises. His right hand is useless, blackened and mangled from the blaster bolt.
Anakin ignites his lightsaber in his left hand. He raises it weakly to a defensive position.
The Mandalorians have completely surrounded the Jedi. They raise their blasters to completely exterminate them.
A huge explosion in the middle of the Mandalorian ranks draws everybody's attention. A squadron of Alderaan fighters swoop by overhead, razing the Mandalorian ranks with blaster fire.
The Mandalorian ranks crumble.
Anakin falls to his knees, exhausted and hurt.
