EXT CONCORD DAWN - CLONING FACILITY - DAY
Hundreds upon thousands of clones stand prepared for battle. They march into huge warships.
EXT CONCORD DAWN - CONTINUING
Warships circle the planet like insects around a hive. The warships head in every direction away from Concord Dawn. Ultimate power is their goal.
CUT TO:
EXT ALDERAAN - NIGHT
Anakin's ship approaches Alderaan. Two escort ships fly out to meet him.
ESCORT SHIP
What is your destination?
INT ANAKIN'S SHIP - CONTINUING
Anakin slows the ship considerably. He turns back to face Amidala and his mother.
ANAKIN
(to Amidala)
Do you really want to do this?
AMIDALA
I have to do what is right for my people.
SHMI SKYWALKER
It will be all right.
ESCORT SHIP (O.S.)
State your destination.
ANAKIN
Jedi escort to... Naboo royalty. We need to speak with Senator Bail Antilles.
ESCORT SHIP (O.S.)
We will escort you to Aldera. Do not deviate from your flight path, or you will be shot down.
ANAKIN
We copy that.
EXT ALDERAAN - CONTINUING
Anakin follows the two escort ships down into the Alderaan atmosphere.
Blaster fire from behind destroys the two escort ships. Anakin barely avoids the flying debris.
INT ANAKIN'S SHIP - CONTINUING
Anakin wrestles with the controls. He races the ship down in the atmosphere, trying to avoid the same fate that befell his escorts.
AMIDALA
What's going on?!
R2D2 whistles and chirps worriedly. Artoo plugs into the computer to assist Anakin.
ANAKIN
We've got company.
The comlink crackles as a message comes through.
AURRA SING (O.S.)
Anakin, time to come out and play.
EXT ANAKIN'S SHIP - CONTINUING
Anakin races low along the plains of Alderaan. Aurra Sing's ship and Slave I follow in close pursuit.
Anakin sees some canyons ahead. He drops his ship into them. He weaves and turns expertly around every corner. Still he cannot shake his pursuers. Blaster fire rains around Anakin's ship, knocking debris from the canyon walls down around the ship.
INT ANAKIN'S SHIP - CONTINUING
Shmi closes her eyes and whispers to herself, almost praying. Amidala screams and jumps at every new obstacle ahead. Anakin grits his teeth in concentration as he accelerates.
AMIDALA
Look out!
ANAKIN
I see it, I see it.
AMIDALA
That rock-
ANAKIN
Do you want to fly this thing?
AMIDALA
I'm just trying-
ANAKIN
Well it's not working.
A huge wall looms up in front of them.
ANAKIN
Oh no. Hold on.
Anakin points the ship directly up. He races up out of the canyon.
EXT ALDERAAN - CANYONS - CONTINUING
Aurra Sing slows her ship. Boba Fett rapidly decelerates, to avoid crashing into her. They both rise out of the canyon. Anakin's ship is nowhere to be seen.
BOBA FETT (O.S.)
You let him get away.
AURRA SING (O.S.)
What can I say? The boy's good.
Boba Fett fires a shot at Aurra Sing's ship. It is easily absorbed by her deflector shields.
AURRA SING (O.S.)
Temper, temper.
CUT TO:
EXT ALDERAAN - CANYONS - OVERHANG - DAY
Anakin's ship rests under a dark overhang. Aurra Sing and Boba Fett fly by overhead.
ANAKIN
We should be safe here. We'll wait until they're gone.
CUT TO:
INT SITH COMPOUND - NIGHT
The Sith Compound rests deep within the bowels of Coruscant. Darkness oozes from every shadow, to permeate the entire complex.
Darth Rezin storms into the compound, exploding the doors inward. A dozen DARK JEDI look up, shocked at his entrance.
DARTH REZIN
We kill Anakin Skywalker.
The Senior Dark Jedi, QUANTER QEL-DROMA, rises to challenge Darth Rezin.
QUANTER QEL-DROMA
Darth Rezin, you are no longer welcome here.
DARTH REZIN
Let that hate burn in you, and join me. We will slay Anakin, and control the Jedi.
Quanter Qel-Droma raises his right arm and clenches his fist. His cloak falls away, revealing a mechanical arm.
QUANTER QEL-DROMA
You have robbed me of my rightful place as Sith Lord, Darth Rezin. You took my arm. And now you ask for my help? You have grown weak.
Darth Rezin whips out his lightsaber and slashes down at Quanter Qel-Droma. Quanter blocks with his PURPLE lightsaber.
DARTH REZIN
I AM THE CHOSEN ONE! I bring balance, not that boy.
Quanter steps into the open and adopts a defensive posture.
QUANTER QEL-DROMA
No one will join you, Rezin. They follow me.
Four Dark Jedi step over to join Darth Rezin.
QUANTER QEL-DROMA
Fools. He will lead you to your destruction.
LIEM KAIRNAL, a bitter, hard faced humanoid, hisses at Quanter.
LIEM KAIRNAL
At least he will lead us, Quanter Qel-Droma.
Liem Kairnal ignites his lightsaber in one hand, and a shorter dagger-like lightsaber in the other. The traitorous Dark Jedi all do the same.
The Dark Jedi following Quanter Qel-Droma ignite their lightsabers.
The Dark Jedi leap into battle for supremacy.
EXT SITH COMPOUND - CONTINUING
Darth Rezin exits, followed by his dark Jedi.
CUT TO:
INT JEDI TEMPLE - COUNCIL CHAMBERS - NIGHT
Yoda sits in his chair. Mace Windu paces, deep in thought. Suddenly he stops.
YODA
Feel it, do you?
MACE WINDU
The balance of power has shifted.
YODA
It is a great disturbance.
MACE WINDU
The boy?
YODA
Not yet.
CUT TO:
EXT ALDERAAN - ROYAL PALACE - NIGHT
Anakin lands his ship near the edge of the lake. Security droids rush out to apprehend the trespassers.
Anakin, Amidala, and Shmi hurry into the security patrol. They are immediately marched toward the security compound. The droids, R2D2 and C3PO march obediently behind them.
Anakin stops, and points in the direction of one of the TRANSPORTATION BUILDING. A security officer hurries toward that building.
EXT ALDERAAN - TRANSPORTATION BUILDING - CONTINUING
Aurra Sing and Boba Fett watch through macrobinoculars as Anakin points their way. The Security officer runs toward the building.
AURRA SING
Clever boy.
Boba Fett squeezes off a shot on his sniper rifle. Anakin deflects it with his lightsaber just before it hits Amidala.
AURRA SING
Fool! You've revealed us both!
BOBA FETT
She's no good to me alive.
AURRA SING
Not much of a man, then.
Boba Fett swings his fist, to backhand Aurra Sing. Aurra Sing catches the hand halfway through the blow.
AURRA SING
You may be good. I'm better.
Aurra Sing walks to the edge of the building. She adjusts her rocket pack.
Boba Fett raises his blaster to shoot her in the back. Aurra Sing doesn't turn around, but she is well aware of the blaster on her.
AURRA SING
I wouldn't, unless you want to walk home. I die, and your ship blows up.
Boba Fett lowers his blaster.
AURRA SING
See you inside.
Aurra Sing rockets away from the building.
CUT TO:
INT ALDERAAN - ROYAL PALACE - THRONE ROOM - NIGHT
Anakin, Amidala, and Shmi follow the security commander into the throne room. Each of them are bound with shackles.
Bail Antilles stands from his throne. Sabe (as the Queen) rises from a nearby seat.
BAIL ANTILLES
What is the meaning of this?
Anakin concentrates, and each of the shackles falls to the ground.
ANAKIN
Senator, you have intruders in your palace.
BAIL ANTILLES
That is obvious, young Jedi. You are here.
Anakin inclines his head respectfully to the Queen of Naboo.
ANAKIN
Your highness.
BAIL ANTILLES
How dare you speak to me thus!
Amidala steps forward and bows respectfully before Bail Antilles.
AMIDALA
Forgive us, Senator, we mean you no injustice. But Anakin is correct. The palace has been infiltrated.
BAIL ANTILLES
Who would dare?
SABE AS AMIDALA
I think you know the answer, Senator.
BAIL ANTILLES
Palpatine.
Sabe extends her two hands to Amidala. Amidala takes Shmi's hand and they join Sabe.
SABE AS AMIDALA
Senator, will you allow me to take my handmaid for refreshment?
BAIL ANTILLES
Of course.
Sabe leads Amidala and Shmi through a door behind the throne.
Amidala casts a backwards glance to Anakin. Anakin stands alone facing Bail Antilles.
BAIL ANTILLES
Why did you come here, boy?
ANAKIN
The queen needed her handmaiden.
Bail circles wide around Anakin, sizing him up.
BAIL ANTILLES
You bring trouble wherever you go, don't you?
ANAKIN
If I need to.
Anakin turns so that he always faces Bail.
BAIL ANTILLES
You are a menace. It is only out of respect for the queen that I don't have you thrown out of here.
ANAKIN
Go ahead and try.
Anakin and Bail are now nose to nose, staring each other down. Both of them tense every muscle, their anger raging within.
CUT TO:
INT ALDERAAN - ROYAL PALACE - QUEEN'S CHAMBERS - CONTINUING
Sabe ushers Amidala and Shmi into the room, then closes the door behind them.
Sabe looks uncomfortably at Shmi.
AMIDALA
She knows. I told her everything.
SHMI SKYWALKER
It is a wonderful thing you do.
SABE
I cannot keep this up much longer, my queen.
AMIDALA
You must. This war cannot be allowed. The Senator knows you now. He trusts you, not me.
SABE
How were you able to bear this great burden for so long?
AMIDALA
My people needed me. Now they need you.
Shmi looks around suddenly, as if she heard something.
SHMI SKYWALKER
Someone's coming.
Amidala creeps to the door and listens. Silence.
AMIDALA
I don't hear anything.
Amidala opens the door and looks out into the hallway. She goes into the hallway and closes the door softly behind her.
Amidala heads back toward the throne room.
CUT TO:
INT ALDERAAN - ROYAL PALACE - THRONE ROOM - CONTINUING
Anakin and Bail tremble with barely-contained anger. Amidala peeks in. She sees this, and steps out into the open.
AMIDALA
What are you doing?
Amidala interposes herself between the two men.
AMIDALA
Do I have to physically separate you two?
She physically pushes on both of their chests, trying to get them apart. Neither one budges.
AMIDALA
Do you have to be so stubborn?
A CRASH from the queen's chambers draws their attention. A brief SCREAM from Sabe follows.
CUT TO:
INT ALDERAAN - ROYAL PALACE - QUEEN'S CHAMBERS - CONTINUING
Shmi Skywalker lies crumpled on the floor in a corner, where she fell.
Broken glass from the outside window covers the floor. Sabe lies still on the bed, not breathing.
Boba Fett raises his blaster at Shmi. Aurra Sing steps into the line of fire.
AURRA SING
No. Not her.
BOBA FETT
She is of no use to us.
AURRA SING
One twitch and I kill you.
Aurra Sing glares hatred at Boba Fett. Behind the expressionless mask he returns the glare.
The door bursts open. Anakin sees Boba Fett and his blaster. He uses the force and hurls Boba Fett against the wall. Aurra Sing leaps to the window.
AURRA SING
She's alive. That's two, Anakin.
Aurra Sing leaps out the window to safety. Boba Fett grabs his blaster and fires at Anakin. Anakin dodges and slashes with his lightsaber, severing the blaster. Boba Fett kicks out, and trips Anakin.
In that brief second, Boba Fett dives out the window.
Bail Antilles and Amidala enter and see Sabe lifeless on the bed. Bail rushes to her.
BAIL ANTILLES
The Queen!
AMIDALA
Oh no.
CUT TO:
INT ALDERAAN - ROYAL PALACE - WAR ROOM - MIDNIGHT
Bail Antilles covers his face with his hands. He slumps deep in his seat. Sorrow overwhelms him.
Amidala buries her face in Anakin's chest. He simply holds her. She's been crying for over an hour.
Shmi holds a compress on the side of her head. She cannot process everything that has just happened.
Obi Wan Kenobi rushes in.
OBI WAN KENOBI
Anakin, what happened?
BAIL ANTILLES
The queen is dead, General.
Obi Wan looks to Anakin. Anakin nods slightly.
OBI WAN KENOBI
How?
BAIL ANTILLES
Two assassins. Palpatine is silencing us, one by one.
OBI WAN KENOBI
I don't think the Supreme Chancellor-
BAIL ANTILLES
That's right. You don't think. All you Jedi do is feel! And where were you, Jedi, when your feelings could have saved her?
Obi Wan silently absorbs these harsh attacks.
OBI WAN KENOBI
I was in meditation, planning my strategies to stop the clones.
BAIL ANTILLES
One of your allies is dead, General. Do you know what that means? It means that now we have no reason to support you. You Jedi will have to fight this war on your own.
Amidala raises her tear-soaked face and angrily looks at Bail Antilles.
AMIDALA
Stop it! Stop it right now. You've done nothing but complain about Palpatine and this war. The Queen is dead! Don't you understand that? She's dead! She's not coming back! You have to carry on what she started.
Bail rises angrily from his seat.
BAIL ANTILLES
You go too far, handmaiden.
Amidala wipes her tears with the back of her hand and faces Bail's challenge.
AMIDALA
I speak only the truth, and it cuts you to the core. Without the Queen to hide behind, you're nothing. Mon Mothma isn't here. You stand alone in your cowardice, Senator.
BAIL ANTILLES
Enough! I will not hear any more of your lies!
Obi Wan stops Amidala's next onslaught by holding up his hand.
OBI WAN KENOBI
The girl speaks the truth. You can't hide your feelings any longer. You must choose. Not Mon Mothma, you, Bail Organa, must choose whether or not to aid the Jedi in this war.
CUT TO:
INT CORUSCANT - GALACTIC SENATE - DAY
Supreme Chancellor Palpatine stands before the Senate. Three boxes are noticeably empty.
PALPATINE
Friends and Senators, it is with grave concern that I address you this day. Our troops have suffered devastating losses in their battle with the Mandalorians.
A worried MURMUR runs through the Senate.
PALPATINE
There is only one path open to us - a full counteroffensive attack.
The MURMUR grows to a ROAR.
PALPATINE
We must use every available resource to battle this terrible enemy. If needs be, we will fight a galactic war.
Chants of WAR ring through the Senate.
Grand Moff Tarkin leans over to Palpatine.
GRAND MOFF TARKIN
For one who just declared war, you do not appear very concerned.
PALPATINE
My concern rests with those who have already fallen in this conflict.
CUT TO:
INT DARTH SIDIOUS CHAMBER - DAY
Darth Sidious sits in his throne, his back to the door.
Boba Fett enters, followed by Aurra Sing.
BOBA FETT
It is done. She is dead.
DARTH SIDIOUS
Well done, Journeyman.
Boba Fett steps back, startled.
DARTH SIDIOUS
Yes, I know who you are. And I know what you have done.
AURRA SING
So what's next?
DARTH SIDIOUS
We watch the tapestry unfold, and reveal its true colors.
