EXT SEASIDE CLIFF - DAY

ANTEUS stands off in the distance, at the cliff edge, quite angry. ATALANTA approaches him. Atalanta attempts to reason with him. Anteus angrily argues with her.

Atalanta walks back to MEGAERA and PERICLES.

MEGAERA

What did he say?

ATALANTA

I'm not going to repeat what he said.

PERICLES

That boy needs to learn some respect.

MEGAERA

I'll go talk to him.

PERICLES

Megaera, if Atalanta couldn't talk to him, why would he talk to you?

ATALANTA

Anteus is going through a lot. Maybe we should just leave him alone.

PERICLES

No. He's got to grow up some time.

ATALANTA

Then give him time to grow up! Back off, Pericles.

MEGAERA

Atalanta, what's gotten into you?

ATALANTA

Nothing. I think you should just give him a chance to work out his problems on his own.

PERICLES

You two go on to Ephesus. I'll catch up to you.

MEGAERA

What about Anteus?

PERICLES

We'll have to see about him.

Megaera and Atalanta head out to the road. Atalanta looks worriedly back at Anteus.

Pericles walks out to the cliffside. He looks out on the ocean, not at Anteus.

PERICLES

The ocean's a dangerous place.

ANTEUS

Like you would know.

PERICLES

Yes, I would know. Being the son of Poseidon, I happen to know a thing or two about the ocean.

ANTEUS

So what do you want?

PERICLES

What's going on with you?

ANTEUS

Nothing.

PERICLES

Really.

ANTEUS

Yeah, what's it to you?

PERICLES

You haven't said much of anything since we left the Necropolis.

ANTEUS

So?

PERICLES

What happened to you?

ANTEUS

Uncle Pericles, I know you're trying to help, but just butt out of my life.

PERICLES

That's it?

ANTEUS

Give me some space to live my own life, okay?

PERICLES

Okay. Is there anything else?

ANTEUS

Not right now.

PERICLES

Fine. We're going to be in Ephesus for a couple of days. You're welcome to join us.

Anteus stares out at the ocean. Pericles turns and heads toward the road.

ANTEUS

(bitterly)

Join us, Anteus, we'll protect you.

CUT TO:

EXT CAVE OF BONES - DAY

HYPERION, a cruel and evil Titan, inhabits the body of CHAYNOCK. Chaynock is a thin sorceror. He is none too pleased about sharing a body with Hyperion. They speak through the same mouth, but with different voices.

Chaynock's left arm hangs limply. It is crudely bandaged. The right arm swirls mystically over the left.

CHAYNOCK

What are you doing? That hurts.

HYPERION

Shut up. I saved your life. You owe me, mortal.

CHAYNOCK

You're the one who thought you could beat Pericles.

HYPERION

I would have, if you had a better body. What do you call this pathetic excuse for flesh?

CHAYNOCK

I happen to be wiry.

HYPERION

You are a scrawny weakling. If you were a Titan, I would have killed you long ago.

Sparks fly up from the left arm.

CHAYNOCK

Aaagh!

HYPERION

Be quiet. I am making your arm better. Better than it ever was.

The right arm peels the bandages off the arm. Instead of human flesh, the arm is now monstrous and hairy.

CHAYNOCK

What have you done to my arm?

HYPERION

It's my arm now. And I made it better.

Hyperion flexes the left hand.

HYPERION

Much better. When I find those humans...

CHAYNOCK

My arm.

HYPERION

They'll regret ever hearing the name Hyperion.

CUT TO:

EXT ROAD TO EPHESUS - DAY

Pericles has caught up with Megaera and Atalanta.

ATALANTA

He's afraid.

PERICLES

Afraid of what? He's big, strong, he knows how to fight.

MEGAERA

Does he? Does he really? Pericles, he's been in that Academy since he was twelve. He's what...nineteen now?

PERICLES

Well, he's in the real world now. He's got to learn.

ATALANTA

And he's scared to death.

CUT TO:

EXT SEASIDE CLIFF - DAY

Anteus stands at the edge of the cliff, staring at the rocks below.

Behind Anteus, a young man, SPARTUS, strolls casually up to him. Spartus plucks a toothpick from his mouth, looks at it, then flips it over the edge.

SPARTUS

So, you going to jump, or what?

Anteus looks sadly down at the rocks below.
